If there are four numbers in the code, the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides.

If there are five numbers in the code, and the number starts with “8″, the produce is genetically modified.

If there are five numbers in the code, and the number starts with “9″, the produce was grown organically (and should not be genetically modified).
