This is my experience of how to claim from the insurance company for the Compulsory Medical Insurance (Blue Cross) at HKUST, Compulsory Medical Insurance Scheme for full-time Degree-seeking Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students. What I claim is the fees for a minor surgery by an ophthalmologist.

After the surgery

Collect the receipt and ask the doctor to list all details and sign it.

No need to ask the doctor to fill the claim form Claim form first since it costs HKD300~800 usually while we are not sure whether the claim is eligible.

Query the agent whether the claim is eligible

Scanning the receipt and send a query email to the customer service of the insurance to ask them to check whether your claim is eligible.

They replied me an email like this:

Dear ...,

Having checked by Medical Claims Department, the captioned operation is eligible and classified under "Minor" operation.

Should you need further assistance, please feel free to contact our Customer Services Department at 36082988.

Fill the form

Then we can fill the claim form and ask the doctor to fill the part for the doctor. The doctor usually charges for this.

Mail all the materials to the insurance company

Mail all the forms, receipts and reference letters (if any) that is listed in the claim form to the insurance company.

After the claim is processed, I received an email from them like:
